Accelerated Reading Program

Accelerated Reader is a program that combines technology and research to motivate and increase independent reading. The program is simple. The child either reads or has read to him/her a book from the Accelerated Reader book list. The child then takes a computerized test on the book, answering simple multiple choice questions that check the child's recall of basic facts and events in the book. After finishing the test, the child receives a point score based on the difficulty level of the book, and the number of questions he/she answers correctly. The computer keeps track of each student's points, reading level and test percentages which become valuable information for teachers, as well as the basis for various "rewards" at school.
